The Future of Work

When I think about the future of work, I see both opportunities and risks. Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) are already transforming jobs, for better or worse. Some roles have disappeared, while others have appeared in fields we couldn’t have imagined a decade ago. While it is nice to see a rise in new roles and career opportunities, the amount of opportunities lost increasingly outweighs them with each passing day.

I once believed a career was a lifelong path, but now it feels more like a series of transitions. In order to stay employed, people must constantly learn new skills to remain relevant and competitive. The idea of stability feels as though it is fading. How much longer do we have before we can no longer compete?

Of course, not everyone is affected equally. High-skilled workers may find exciting opportunities, while others face unemployment and uncertainty. Governments and companies have a responsibility to support workers through these changes. More regulations are needed to protect workers from the ever increasing automation of our everyday work.

I try to stay optimistic and think of all the ways AI and automation can help improve our lives. I imagine a world where technology frees people from mundane work tasks and instead gives them time for exploring their creativity. Whether that vision becomes reality heavily depends on the choices we make today.
